In art this week, we continued with our “fabric of nature” component of learning. This week, our Year 3 artists stepped back in time to discover the beautiful textile designs of Victorian artist William Morris, who believed everyday household items should be works of art. Inspired by his love of nature, the children created their own organic patterns on tracing paper. They then explored a fascinating resist-printing technique called Glue Batik, carefully tracing their designs onto fabric squares using PVA glue. In our second session, we explored how motifs create repeating patterns. Using palettes of paint inspired by their own mood boards, the children painted vibrant colours over their fabric. Once dry, the glue will be washed away to reveal their stunning, crisp pattern lines underneath!
