Year 5 have had a fantastic and meaningful week at school, with a strong focus on our Anti-Racism Week. The children took part in thoughtful discussions about equality, respect, and inclusion, and were lucky to receive a special visit from Notts County Football Club, who delivered an inspiring session on “showing racism the red card.” This helped pupils understand the importance of standing up against discrimination and treating everyone with kindness. As part of this work, the class created their own anti-racist pledges, reflecting on how they can make a positive difference in school and beyond.
In Music, pupils have begun an exciting new topic on looping and remixing, exploring how layers of sound can be built and repeated to create engaging pieces. They also enjoyed a practical lesson on body percussion, using claps, taps, and rhythms to compose and perform as a group.
In English, the children have started an exciting new topic by exploring powerful speeches from David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg. They discussed the impact of language, tone, and key messages, and began to identify techniques used to inspire and persuade audiences.
It has been wonderful to see such maturity, creativity, and teamwork throughout the week. Well done, Year 5, for your thoughtful contributions and positive attitudes!
