The children on Year 1 are doing so brilliantly and we continue to be impressed by their adaptability and understanding of the new learning and concepts we are teaching them.
There has been lots going on this week. We introduced the children to the new focus book for the next few weeks. You may have heard about a special finding of an alien named Beegu left in the office! We ‘discovered’ a cardboard box with 6 puppies inside and a little yellow creature who we later found out was an alien called Beegu! We read the story Beegu – a tale of little Beegu being lost on planet Earth and in search of his family he tries to make some friends to help him. He tried make friends with the leaves, a tree, 6 pups and some children at a local school. At the end of the story, he is reunited with his family who beams him back up into their spacecraft. The children were so excited to hear that Beegu had chosen this school to land at – they enjoyed making different things for Beegu and wanted to take really good care of her before her parents come back for her. The next few weeks, will be centred around writing about Beegu using adjectives and we will end the unit by making posters to help Beegu’s parents find her.
In art this week, children experimented with wavy lines to create a group piece inspired by the sea! They use a range of mediums and thought together about what they wanted to add to their piece. They learnt about working into the original lines they had created to add colour or depth!
Our learning in geography has been about similarities and differences between villages, towns and cities. We learnt about things you might find in a city but not in Bramcote and the children sorted images of local places into these catargories.
