Year 1 had a very exciting start to their English learning this week! After lunch on Tuesday, the children discovered some mysterious footprints with long, sharp claws and turned-out toes. When they returned to the classroom, there were even more clues… a poisonous wart at the end of his nose! We soon realised that The Gruffalo had been in our classroom!
The children used drama to act out the different animals from the story and had great fun performing for their friends. They also used adjectives to describe the characters orally, thinking carefully about the best words to add detail. Videos of their fantastic performances have been uploaded to Seesaw, and we loved watching them back together as a class.
Later in the week, we explored adjectives to describe the Gruffalo’s appearance before using these ideas to write full sentences. On Friday, the children worked hard to remember their capital letters and full stops. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and creativity!
