Year 3

As part of our forces and magnets component of learning in science we conducted an experiment involving the force friction. We wanted to understand how objects move on different surfaces and explore why. To do this we collected ramps with different textures. We ensured that the height and length of the ramp remained the same as well as the type of car. We measured the distance travelled to understand how much friction was caused by each material. Lots of us predicted correctly, that the smoother materials such as wood or foam would have less friction and cause the car to travel further. Whereas bumpy material such as carpet caused the car to stop sooner.
