This week has been Science Week and we have been looking at how we can develop our ‘working scientifically’ skills. We learnt about what hedgehogs do when they hibernate and we decided that we wanted to try and build a hedgehog home of our own.
First, we discussed scientific questions and we thought about which questions we would need to investigate in order to build our hedgehog home. We needed to find out which materials are waterproof and which are good insulators.
We carried out an investigation to test which of the materials were waterproof and which were absorbant. We also did an ice-cube experiment to see which ones were also good insulators.
We then used all our knowledge to design and build our homes. We are hoping to have some prickly friends that will come and make our homes a cosy place to sleep in over the winter.
