Whole School

Another Busy Week at BHPS

This week has been filled with curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning across the whole school, with pupils exploring the world around them through a range of engaging experiences.

Our youngest learners in Foundation have been developing their understanding of the world through exploration and questioning. From investigating floating and sinking with boats to learning about the Amazon rainforest, children have shown great curiosity. They have explored maps, compared environments such as the rainforest and their local woods, and expressed their learning creatively through art.

In Key Stage 1, pupils have been building key skills in English and the arts. Year 1 children have been developing their writing by focusing on the past tense, inspired by an exciting postcard from the zoo, which led to thoughtful and imaginative responses. Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils have been applying their artistic skills to create detailed sculptural tiles, showcasing their understanding of texture and design.

Lower Key Stage 2 has been a hub of creativity and practical learning. Year 3 pupils have immersed themselves in art and design technology, constructing abstract sculptures and stable pavilion structures, using a wide range of techniques and tools. Their work has demonstrated both imagination and growing technical understanding

In Upper Key Stage 2, pupils have combined scientific thinking with creativity. Year 5 have explored the work of influential scientists such as Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei, while also developing their writing through poetry and persuasive language. Their design technology work has seen them applying knowledge of mechanisms to create and improve pulleys and gears. Year 6 pupils have taken a hands-on approach to science, investigating natural selection through practical experiments inspired by Darwin’s finches, analysing their findings and drawing thoughtful conclusions.

Overall, it has been a fantastic week of exploration, creativity and critical thinking, with pupils across the school demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience and a real love of learning.
