A Busy and Creative Week Across School (Despite the Heat!)

What a wonderfully busy week it has been across school, even with the incredibly hot temperatures! The children have shown fantastic resilience, enthusiasm and focus in their learning, while also making the most of time outdoors. Lunchtimes and breaktimes have been especially enjoyable, with pupils taking full advantage of the woodland area next to both the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds.

A particular highlight of the week was Year 5 proudly presenting their Industrial Revolution assembly to parents. The children spoke confidently and demonstrated an excellent understanding of their topic – we are very proud of their efforts.

Year 1 have been developing their craft and fine motor skills in Art. They have explored a range of techniques including wrapping with wool, tying knots and plaiting. This week, they were introduced to paper weaving, carefully working in and out of the strips to create their own designs. The children showed great concentration and perseverance, producing some beautifully creative work.

Year 2 had an exciting start to the week with their visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. It was fantastic to see animals linked to their Kenya topic, and the staff were extremely impressed with the children’s excellent behaviour. Back in school, they continued their learning about the Maasai Mara, creating colourful necklaces inspired by traditional Maasai beadwork and learning the significance of different colours.

Year 3 have had a very full and productive week. In Science, they explored how muscles work in pairs to help our bodies move. Their English work focused on using direct speech in writing inspired by The Tunnel, while Maths lessons developed their understanding of 2D shapes and lines. In RSE, they approached learning about changes during puberty with maturity and respect. A highlight of the week was their DT session, where they worked collaboratively to create delicious seasonal tarts.

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a very popular Book Swap this week, giving children the chance to exchange books and discover new stories – something we look forward to repeating soon! Year 6 have also been busy preparing for the upcoming Summer Fayre, designing posters and creating videos to promote their stalls.

We are incredibly proud of how well all pupils have coped with the heat while continuing to work hard and show positive attitudes throughout the week.

Looking ahead: Don’t forget our PTA Summer Fayre next week, and non-uniform day on Monday – we look forward to seeing you there!
