This week, Year 6 have enjoyed Light Night, where we took part in many different activities involving light! We completed a scavenger hunt, communicated using morse code across the playground, and reflected a beam of light around the outside of 3C.
We also joined a video call with a Holocaust survivor who talked about her experiences.
Hedi Argent MBE
Hedi was born in Vienna in 1929 and grew up in a Jewish family. When the Nazis took over Austria in 1938, her life changed very suddenly. She was forced to leave her school, her father lost his job and was arrested, and their home was taken from them. The family became desperate to escape, and just before the Second World War began, they managed to reach England with only a few belongings. Sadly, 27 members of their wider family were killed in the Holocaust.
Life in England was safer but still difficult. Hedi’s parents had to work as servants, and her father could never return to being a lawyer. Hedi settled into school in the Midlands and later became a British citizen. As an adult, she married, had children and became a social worker. Today, she describes herself as a European Jew.
