Early Years Foundation Stage

At Bramcote Hills, we believe that the Early Years are a vital stage in every child’s learning journey. Our Foundation Stage provides a stimulating and supportive space where children can explore, discover, and grow with confidence.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which sets the standards for learning, development, and care from birth to age five. Through a balance of play-based and structured learning, we encourage children to become curious, resilient, and independent learners.

  • Child-Centred Learning – Activities are tailored to children’s interests, helping them develop key skills across all areas of learning.
  • A Caring Environment – Our dedicated staff create a safe, welcoming space where every child feels valued and confident.
  • Learning Through Play – We know that children learn best when they are having fun! Our days are filled with play, exploration, stories, outdoor adventures, and creative opportunities.
  • Strong Partnerships with Families – We work closely with parents and carers, sharing milestones and celebrating progress together.

Our caring team helps children to:

  • Make new friends and feel part of a community
  • Develop independence and confidence
  • Explore language, numbers, and the world around them
  • Express themselves through art, music, and imaginative play

Most importantly, we want your child to love coming to school each day.

In line with the EYFS Framework, our provision supports children across seven areas of learning and development:

  1. Communication and Language
  2. Physical Development
  3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Understanding the World
  7. Expressive Arts and Design

By the end of Reception, children leave EYFS as enthusiastic, confident learners, ready to move into Key Stage 1 – with lots of happy memories of their first years at Bramcote Hills.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your child to our EYFS family!

Forest Schools at BHPS

Welcome to our Early Years Forest School page. Here at Bramcote Hills Primary, we believe that children learn best when they are curious, active, and inspired by the world around them. Our Forest School programme gives children the chance to step outside the classroom and into nature, where learning comes alive in exciting and meaningful ways.

Forest School helps children to:
🌿 develop confidence and independence through hands-on learning

🌿 manage risk and develop an understanding of how to keep themselves safe
🌿 build problem-solving and critical thinking skills in real-life contexts
🌿 strengthen language and social skills through shared experiences
🌿 enhance physical development through active outdoor exploration
🌿 connect with and respect the natural world
🌿 express themselves through creativity and imaginative play

During their time in the woods, children will:
• discover and identify wildlife, including local animals and insects
• learn about trees, plants, and seasonal changes
• create nature art using leaves, sticks, and natural materials
• build dens, climb safely, and explore natural spaces
• share stories and songs
• develop a lifelong love of the outdoors

Come rain or shine, our learning continues under the trees!

Our Forest School sessions are a wonderful way for children to develop their understanding of the world around them. By spending time outdoors, children learn to:
• notice the changes in seasons – from crunching autumn leaves to spotting new buds in spring
• talk about the animals, insects, plants, and trees they discover
• ask questions, share ideas, and make connections about the natural world
• understand how to look after nature and care for living things
• appreciate the beauty of our environment and why it is important to protect it

These rich experiences help children develop curiosity, care, and respect for the world they live in – all while having fun and making memories under the trees.
