Foundation
In Autumn during ‘I wonder where our story will take us..’ topic the children were shocked to find a huge mess in the outdoor area and a crime scene. They had to investigate who could have made such a mess by looking at the clues. They found out it was Goldilocks!!
In Spring, we had a visit from the WonderDome, this was a planetarium and finished our topic on space. We visited space and talked about all the facts we had learnt.
We have some children in Foundation who have a Chinese cultural heritage so in February we celebrated Lunar New Year. Two sets of parents came in to share their culture and shared how they celebrate. They taught us some Mandarin. They showed us some clothes that they wear and gave us some red envelopes to take home. We also practised cutting the Chinese symbol for Spring. We made dragon puppets for a Dragon Dance and used them to dance to music. We made lanterns for the Lantern Festival, snakes as it was the Year of the Snake, decorated the home corner ready for Lunar New Year. We practised writing Chinese characters and numbers.
Pirates
The children came into school dressed up as pirates for the day as well as the teachers! We found a mysterious chest in the holidays and wanted to open this with the children. Inside we found the belongings of Pirate Pete which had been stolen by Seafoam Sam. There was treasure, a map and a message in a bottle. The day was full of pirate-themed crafting, cooking and fun!
During the Summer Term, 10 eggs arrived.....we waited to see what would happen. This was linked to our ‘I wonder how living things grow...’ The children had a chick afternoon with their grown-ups. They enjoyed holding the chick with their adults and taking part in many chick-themed activities, such as ordering the life cycle of a hen, mask making, split-pin chicks.
