Double Olympian Visits BHPS

On Tuesday we welcomed Maralyn Okoro, a GB double Olympian, to BHPS. Maralyn is a 400, 800 and 1500m runner who has won an Olympic bronze medal in the women’s 4 x 400m relay.

She spoke to the whole school about her experiences, successes and failures before spending half an hour with each year group, giving them a physical workout and answering questions.

Both staff and children were fascinated by her resilience and mental strength, as well as her obvious talent for running. Her message to the children was clear – that they should follow their dream, whatever that may be, with determination so that they can be the best they can be. Here are some quotes from the children.

'I was amazed just how much exercising Marilyn had to do!' Lucas

'She is really encouraging' Gabriel

'Marilyn gave me so much confidence to have a go!' Ewan

'You, Marilyn, have inspired me'  Khushi and Matthew

'Thank you for coming to our school  -I never thought I would meet a Double Olympian' Elliot

,She has boosted my confidence to do even more sport' Josie

'I have the confidence to have a go at sport now' Eva

'I tried hard with the games, I loved it more than I thought I would' Eva

'We all want to work hard and maybe become an Olympian in the future!'
