Proud of Year 6
I was thrilled with the effort made by Year 6 last week.
Last week, the children in Year 6 took their SATs in reading, maths, grammar, punctuation and spelling. I have to praise them for their excellent attitude and application. It is naturally a very busy time for them and I was so impressed by their determination. If I am honest, I am frustrated by the current emphasis on Year 6 SATs results. I believe children should take tests and it is right that we try to provide a stimulating curriclulm that enables them to do their best. Where the current climate is wrong, in my opinion, is the disproportionate amount of significance attributed to a school's set of results. I would rather schools received an annual OfSTED inspection which considered the quality of teaching, the work in children's books and the views of parents and children than a system that places so much importance on test results.
Despite this, I am proud of the efforts made by the children and the fanatstic team of Year 6 staff, Mrs Berry, Mrs Wiesemes, Mrs Headland and Miss Prodger. Well done everyone!
