Festival of Holi

The day provided a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to learn about the cultural significance of Holi while enjoying creative and interactive experiences.

Foundation and Year 6 pupils learnt about how dance can be used to mark the arrival of Spring, one of the overarching themes within the festival of Holi. Year 6 showcased their Bollywood dance skills, performing a dynamic routine to the beats of traditional music, whilst foundation used ribbon dancing to incorporate the bright colours associated with the festival. Foundation built up their appetite with all their dancing and were even given the chance to try some traditional Holi foods!

Year 1 and Year 2 immersed themselves in the traditions of India by learning about the Jaipur Elephant Parade. They created their own colourful elephants, preparing for a parade that they would march in, accompanied by traditional music, enabling children to understand the artistic and cultural importance of such parades during Holi.

In Year 3 and Year 4, students explored the significance of Rangoli patterns, learning how these vibrant patterns are used to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck, and to bring good fortune and ward off evil.

Year 5 focused on the relationship between music and colour within the Holi festival. They learned how these elements reflect the emotions and energy of the celebration and used this knowledge to create a piece of music inspired by the feelings evoked by different colours.

As Holi is a festival, which highlights the importance of family and community, we wanted to capture this essence within our whole school and wider community activities. To conclude the day, we held the highly anticipated Holi Colour Run! On entering the event, we hope you managed to capture a glimpse of BHPS ‘Happy Holi’ art installation, which was proudly displayed on the school fence. The Colour Run was a wonderful community event, filled with excitement and spirit, and a fitting end to our day of learning and celebration. Thank you to all those who donated money to make this activity possible.

We are thrilled with how the Holi celebrations brought our school community together and provided a rich and engaging experience for our students.

Futures Week

We welcomed an array of incredible STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) professionals to launch our 'Futures Week'! They shared demonstrations from various fields, inspiring and educating our students about careers in STEM. Throughout the week, we'll build on this knowledge to explore how STEM can play a crucial role in safeguarding our planet's future and combatting climate change. We can’t wait to see everyone apply their skills to create innovative designs for our home STEM project at the end of the week!
